The Tõstamaa Handicraft Centre, together with our local community and friends, is organising Tõstamaa Õhetus, a festival taking place in July. Join us for an inspiring three-day journey into the world of traditional crafts and cultural heritage, where we will knit, explore different crafts, create together and find new inspiration.
Our workshops are open to everyone who loves knitting and handicrafts—boys and girls, women and men, beginners and experienced makers alike.
Throughout the three-day festival, we offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Tõstamaa’s traditional roosimine knitting technique. Under the guidance of experienced masters, you will learn and practise various roosimine techniques that have been used for generations to decorate traditional Tõstamaa mittens and stockings.
Above all, Tõstamaa Õhetus is an opportunity to experience Tõstamaa, meet our local community and discover the rich cultural heritage and living craft traditions of our region.
ways to take part
Choose how you take part
Three-day workshop
You can fully immerse yourself in roosimine by joining our three-day workshop, where we will focus on traditional motifs found on historical Tõstamaa knitted items: veskitiivaline, sõelaservaline, kassikäpakiri, kaheksakannuline and rehapiiline. During the workshop, you will create small brooches or decorative pouches that can be attached to a bag.
Individual workshops
Alternatively, you can choose individual roosimine workshops, leaving plenty of time to explore the other craft workshops offered during the festival.
Communal knitting
Be sure to take advantage of our communal knitting sessions! Bring your current knitting project and join fellow knitters in either of our two dedicated knitting areas.
